I’ve been meaning to write this for a couple of weeks now because I know how hard it is to find good help around here, especially when you’re already stressed out and in pain. I’ve been a truck driver for a beverage distributor out of Highland for about fourteen years—local routes, delivering to stores and restaurants all over Ulster and Greene counties. About a year ago I was helping unload a pallet of soda cases when the pallet jack hit a bump and the whole load shifted. I tried to catch it and ended up with a torn labrum in my shoulder that needed surgery and months of PT. The workers comp process has been an absolute nightmare from day one. My employer was decent about it but the insurance company denied my surgery twice, sent me to doctors who said I was fine when I could barely lift my arm, and then tried to cut my benefits while I was still in a sling. I was so frustrated I didn’t know where to turn. One of the other drivers at my company mentioned that he’d gone through something similar a few years back and that he’d worked with Edward Seplavy Highland NY and had a really good experience. I figured I’d give it a shot because I was getting nowhere on my own. Honestly it was the best decision I’ve made in this whole process. They handled all the back-and-forth with the insurance company, got my surgery approved, and made sure my benefits kept coming while I was recovering. I’m still not back to full duty yet but at least now I feel like someone is actually in my corner instead of just trying to push me through the system. If you’re in the Highland area and you’ve been fighting this stuff on your own, don’t wait as long as I did. It’s worth having someone who knows what they’re doing, trust me
